2024, Part II
A recap in Engagements
During the wedding planning process, I connect with my couples through meaningful phone and video calls, emails, or meetings, but when I have the opportunity, one of my favorite things is to meet for an engagement session.
I’m always eager to get a chance to meet them, learn their communication style, which poses and prompts resonate with them, and which do not. I know that getting your portrait taken can be a vulnerable experience for some couples, and I treat the time we have together with great importance.
I’m fortunate to stay connected with many of my clients long after their wedding date has passed, so I take this first meeting as an important step in our partnership. It’s important to me to build trust, maintain good communication, and listen to their feedback, with collaboration being at the center of it all.
For the couples getting married next year, engagement sessions feel like a glimpse into their story, and it helps me picture the love, energy and vision they will bring into their day. Engagement sessions also help me tell a part of the story that may not be woven into their wedding day. I love finding ways to incorporate a location that is special but we can’t visit on the wedding day, weave a passion of the couple into their session, or include some furry friends.
Two of the couples I photographed this year are now newlyweds, one is newly engaged, and others are looking forward to their big day in 2025. I’m so excited for what’s to come in 2025—more engagement sessions, more celebrations, and more couples I’ll have the privilege of working with.
